Introducing a book that fills the gap that often exists between trainers, riders, and equine bodywork therapists when it comes to understanding how the dressage horse uses his body in performance. Learn hands-on ways we can help optimize his suppleness, flexibility, balance, and movement while easing the effects of common stressors on the musculoskeletal system—that is, make his body as perfect, effective, and pain-free as possible.

Join the creator of the Masterson Method® of equine bodywork Jim Masterson, along with Masterson Method® practitioner Coralie Hughes, Grand Prix dressage rider Betsy Steiner, and creator of Anatomy in Motion™ The Visible Horse Susan Harris as they clearly demonstrate steps we can take to make our horses comfortable, happy athletes for years to come.

Jim Masterson, Equine Massage-Bodywork Therapist for the 2006, 2008, 2010, 2012, and 2014 USEF Endurance Teams, has worked on thousands of horses competing on the AA level and in FEI World Cup, Pan American, and World Equestrian Games competitions. Jim recognized early in his career that the horse exhibits certain visual, neurological responses to touch as the horse releases tension in the body. Using those responses to guide his work, he developed a system in which the horse participates in the process by showing the practitioner where tension has accumulated, precisely how much pressure is needed to release it, and when it has been released. The result is an effective method of equine body work that anyone can learn to use, that will improve performance and at the same time open new levels of communication and trust with the horse. Jim teaches his unique method to horse owners and therapists around the world.

Coralie Hughes is a Masterson Method advanced course instructor and certified practitioner. Her experience in dressage includes receiving her USDF bronze medal, active pursuit of the silver medal on a horse she has trained, and graduating "with distinction" from the USDF " L" program for judges training. She translated the bestselling German books Balancing Act by Dr. Gerd Heuschmann and Ridden by Ulrike Thiel, both published by Trafalgar Square Books. Coralie teaches, trains, and works as a bodywork therapist at her farm in Indiana.

During her three decade long career, Betsy Steiner has successfully trained many horses to Grand Prix. She is a USDF bronze, silver, and gold medalist, and a sought-after clinician and panelist who has competed internationally and achieved Grand Prix wins at prestigious shows in the United States. One of the highlights of Betsy's illustrious career was when she represented the United States at the World Equestrian Games in Stockholm, Sweden, in 1990 aboard her own wonderful Dutch Warmblood, Unanimous after a successful tour in Europe. Betsy currently trains both in Wellington, Florida, during the winter season and in Frenchtown, New Jersey, in the summer months. At both facilities she trains her horses and riders to achieve their full potential and reach their goals.

Susan E. Harris was an international clinician, equestrian educator, author, and artist. She taught clinics in Biomechanics of Horse and Rider, Anatomy in Motion™, Centered Riding®, Centered Jumping and Dressage around the world. Her unique and original demonstration, "Anatomy in Motion™ and The Visible Horse" in which she painted the skeleton and muscles on a live horse, was a popular attraction at equine expos and clinics around the world from Australia to Egypt. Susan wrote and illustrated a number of books on horses, including Horse Gaits, Balance and Movement; Grooming to Win; and the US Pony Club Manuals of Horsemanship. Susan passed away in March 2021.You can visit Anatomy in Motion™ online at www.anatomyinmotion.com.
